About Our Home Building Company
In the 1990s, I moved to the St. Charles area and started working with McKelvey Homes, the oldest building company in St. Louis. For six years, I learned the craft from the ground up. I watched how details mattered. I saw which materials held up and which ones failed after a few seasons. I noticed the difference between contractors who cut corners and those who treated every home like their own.
That experience changed how I saw the business. After six years, I decided to build on my own—not to do it faster or cheaper, but to do it the way I knew was right. I wanted to build homes where every material choice, every connection, every system was picked because it worked, not because it was convenient. Starting with starter homes and eventually moving into custom builds, I learned what actually lasts. The framing that stays straight. The insulation that keeps the cold out. The roof that doesn't leak in the second rain.
After more than three decades, we've seen what works. Materials matter—a lot. We buy from suppliers we know and trust because cheap lumber warps, cheap windows fog, cheap shingles blow off. We know this because we've tracked our homes over the years. Some of them are twenty years old now, and we still drive by them sometimes. The ones built with the best materials still look solid. The ones we cut corners on teach us lessons we don't repeat.
We also learned that quality comes from attention. A framing crew that knows they'll be back to finish the next phase works differently than a crew hired just to rush through. A builder who talks to the homeowner about why a material choice matters builds differently than one who just follows a spec sheet. We choose slower. We choose harder. We choose systems that work together rather than components that just barely meet code. It takes longer. It costs more in materials. But here's what we've learned: it costs less in heartache ten years in.
'I started this because I wanted to build the kind of home I'd want to live in myself. Not just a house you buy, but a home you trust.'
— Owner and Builder
When you work with us, you're working with someone who's built hundreds of homes and remembers them. We spend time before we break ground talking about what you need, what you want to feel when you walk in the door, and what you want to still have working well in fifteen years. We walk the lot. We talk about placement. We explain our material choices not as upgrades, but as standard practice.
You'll notice we show up. You'll notice the crew respects the job. You'll notice we take pictures of what's behind the walls—because what's hidden matters more than what you see. And when we're finished, you won't feel like you just bought a product. You'll feel like you've got a home that's actually built to last. If you'd like to talk about what quality building means for your project, we'd like to hear from you.
